About Me

My name is Izzy Pompeo, and I am a sophomore in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I am majoring in Journalism, with an emphasis on strategic communication, as well as pursuing a certificate in Digital Studies.

Although a student and current resident in Wisconsin, I grew up in Montville, New Jersey. Being 45 minutes from New York City, I have learned to appreciate the restlessness and excitement of the city, as well as the fast-paced East Coast lifestyle. However, going to school in Madison, Wisconsin has fostered my ability to thrive in a more relaxed environment.

The topic of off-campus safety is extremely important to me, being an off-campus resident myself. Constantly witnessing and hearing about robberies and off-campus crime, has furthered my passion to mend this disconnect between off- and on-campus police jurisdiction.

During my freshmen year of college, I lived in an off-campus dorm right off of State Street. One afternoon, a man broke into my dorm room, in an attempt to steal money from my three roommates and I. Although unsuccessful, this incident facilitated my fearful thoughts for my off-campus safety. No WiscAlert was sent out for this event, which sparked my initial interest in the proximity issue of on-campus alerts.

If you or anyone you know feels safe on- or off-campus, make sure to call 911.
